LabMaterials/LabSubmissions Sharepoint Guide

What is LabMaterials?

LabMaterials is a network sharepoint that is automatically mounted on every student computer in the school network. It facilities the delivery of materials, such as documents, music, videos, to all lab users, rather than having to burn them onto CD for manual copying onto the lab computer.

You can think of the LabMaterials share as a library of sorts. You place the files you want to share with your students/staff in your unit folder, and then direct your students to copy the files out onto them own lab computer when needed.

How do I add files to LabMaterials?

1. You need to apply for a folder, using this online form. If you would like multiple folders for each of your units, submit a different request for each one.

2. Connect to the sharepoint as an authorised user, once you have received notification that your folders have been created. You can do this by access the "Connect to Server" menu, under the "Go" menu.

3. Enter the "Server Address" and click on the "Connect" button.

  • SCA users should enter: afp://labmaterials.sca.ecu.edu.au for the "Server Address".
  • WAAPA users should enter: afp://waapa-fps-01.waapa.ecu.edu.au for the "Server Address".

4. You will be prompted to enter in your "Name" and "Password", which is the same username/password you use to log onto the macintosh lab computers.

5. You then have to select the "labmaterials" share name. This is the sharepoint on which LabMaterials lives.

graphic4

6. You will then be presented with a list of all "LabMaterials" folders for each unit. You will notice that you can access all the folders within the "LabMaterials" folder, however you will only be able to modify your own.

7. Remeber to Eject the "labmaterials" volume when your finished.

What do the students see in the labs?

What is LabSubmissions?

LabSubmissions is a network sharepoint similar to LabMaterials, however it was created to allow students to electronically submit weekly assessments or tasks. As a lecturer/tutor you can choose whether or not your students can submit a particular assessment via the electronic system. However electronic LabSubmission should be used in conjunction with a hardcopy LabSubmission.

Students simply connect and navigate to the unit folder they are seeking, then drag and drop their assignment into a "Drop Box". This is a folder that will allow students to copy their assignment into, but not see what is inside the folder itself, so they can't view other student assignments.

Students should ALWAYS maintain a backup of any work they submit through the LabSubmissions system.
